I look out across the water
Through the strands of hair
That fall in front of my eyes.
The view blurred as my eyes
Strain to see through
And not focus on
That which is closest to them.
A slight breeze comes up
And I catch a clear glimpse
Of what the world really is
Or rather, what I wish
My world was
The sun's light shines down
Making the waves sparkle
Shimmering more brightly
Than the reflection
Of the moon's gentle glow.
Pushing my hair away,
I look out across the water.
I squint, trying to protect
My eyes from the
Sun's brightness.
I look down and
Catch a glimpse of
A squirrel, darting
In and out of the rocks
Playing.
Just as the small birds
Run in and out with the waves
Picking all the small bugs
From the freshly exposed sand.
It's a game.
They stay out on the wet sand
As long as they can
Before the next wave comes in
Then they run back to safety.
I let my eyes wander to the waves
As they break out away from the beach,
And then I follow them
As they build back up
And crash against the sand.
I close my eyes a moment
Listening to the sound
Relaxing.
I open my eyes again and
I look out across the water.
