A black speck in the sky
A raptor flying in wide circles
It's hollow cry
Echos off the distant mountain tops
And through the empty caverns
The heavy sound of silence
Rushes through this lonely world
Crushing everything in it's path
A tidal wave of nothing
And everything at once
Drowning out that sad birds cry.

Pacing in circles
The tears building
Then falling
Drenching my cheeks
A soft sob escapes my throat
Seeming to echo against
All four walls
Of this small room
And finding it's way
Straight to my heart
Bringing on a new wave
Of those salty,
Crystalline tears.

Mustering all of it's strength
The solitary bird
Flaps its wings,
Gracefully,
Soaring above the drowning earth,
Above the silence.
Soaring higher and higher
It lets out a defiant cry.
A cry overflowing with hope.
